World Asthma Day

The Department of Pediatrics celebrated World Asthma Day with an engaging and educational program aimed at raising awareness and improving asthma care. The event was organized in collaboration with the Pediatric Respiratory Society, Delhi, and witnessed the active participation of 40 pediatric patients along with their caregivers.
The program included free anthropometric assessments and pulmonary function testing (PFTs) for all attendees, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of each child’s respiratory health. Informative talks and demonstrations on the correct use of inhalation devices were conducted by experts to empower both patients and parents. The interactive sessions helped clarify common myths about asthma and emphasized the importance of adherence to treatment. Caregivers were educated about early warning signs, trigger avoidance, and the role of regular follow-up in asthma management.

World Breast Feeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated in 2024 & 2025, with activities spanning across an entire week. A wide range of events were organized to promote awareness and highlight the importance of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants.
As part of the celebrations, skits and interactive awareness sessions were conducted for the community, focusing on the benefits and correct practices of breastfeeding. Dedicated talks and workshops were organized for healthcare providers, nursing staff, students, and mothers, aimed at strengthening their knowledge and skills in supporting breastfeeding practices. Educational sessions for undergraduate students were also an integral component of the program, ensuring that future healthcare professionals are well-equipped with essential knowledge. In addition, quizzes and skit competitions were held both for students and the community to encourage active participation and enhance engagement. The week-long activities successfully combined community awareness, healthcare training, and student education, reinforcing the vital role of breastfeeding in child health |

Patient Safety week

During Patient Safety Week, the Department of Pediatrics conducted a Code Pink drill to strengthen preparedness for managing pediatric emergencies. The exercise aimed to enhance team coordination, response time, and ensure the safety and well-being of children within the hospital.

Stop Diarrhoea Campaign | July 2024 | The Department of Pediatrics observed the “Stop Diarrhoea
Campaign” in accordance with the Government of India initiative to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with diarrheal diseases in children. As part of the campaign, a dedicated “Diarrhoea Corner” was set up in the OPD to provide focused care and counseling to families. Free distribution of ORS packets and zinc tablets was carried out to ensure timely and effective management of diarrhoeal episodes. Awareness sessions were also organized for parents and caregivers, emphasizing the importance of early rehydration, continued feeding, hygiene practices, and timely medical consultation in the management of diarrhoea. The campaign not only benefitted patients and their families but also served as an opportunity to reinforce the commitment of the department towards promoting child health and preventive care. |

Poshan Abhiyan 2024 | September 2024 | The Department of Pediatrics, HIMSR, conducted Poshan Abhiyaan as
part of the Government of India’s initiative to promote nutrition and healthy growth among children. As part of the program, detailed anthropometric measurements of all children attending the OPD were carried out to assess their growth and nutritional status. In addition, interactive community sessions were organized to emphasize the importance of adequate nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy feeding practices. Undergraduate students actively participated in the activities, gaining valuable hands-on experience in growth monitoring, nutritional assessment, and community engagement. Their involvement not only enriched the program but also helped in creating greater awareness among families regarding the role of nutrition in child health. The initiative successfully combined clinical assessment, community awareness, and student education, thereby contributing to the overarching goals of the Poshan Abhiyaan. |
