ORGAN DONATION WEEK 2025
Organ donation is an act that can save and improve lives in many ways. However, there is a huge gap between the number of organ donors and those awaiting transplants, as the number of people waiting for organ transplants vastly exceeds those willing to donate.
On March 18, 2025, HIMSR, in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Community Medicine, hosted a guest lecture on organ donation, featuring Mr. Anil Kumar from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO). The session aimed to raise awareness about the significance of organ donation, the legal and ethical framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), and the role of NOTTO in coordinating organ transplants. Mr. Anil Kumar also addressed common myths surrounding organ donation and encouraged voluntary participation.
The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session where attendees gained clarity on donor eligibility, family consent, and the registration process. The event successfully educated students and faculty on the life-saving potential of organ donation and inspired many to consider registering as donors.
