The Department of Physiology at Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (HIMSR) is dedicated to excellence in teaching the fundamental principles of medicine and pioneering robust scientific research. We foster a dynamic learning environment for our undergraduate and postgraduate students, training them to become creative and independent scholars in the physiological sciences
The Mission of the Department of Physiology is to carry out robust scientific research and employ interactive student centric teaching methods, culminating in excellence in both research and teaching.
Our goal is to teach and train independent, creative, productive scholars in the physiological sciences and develop world class infrastructure to implement this.
Key Research Activities:
- Venom and Toxins, and Drug Discovery from natural sources .
- Cardiovascular Physiology, including cardiac hypertrophy, failure, and baroreflex sensitivity .
- Reproductive & Pregnancy-related Physiology, with a strong focus on pre-eclampsia, oxidative stress, and angiogenic balance .
- Metabolic Disorders, such as diabetes, and the impact of lifestyle modifications .
- Sports Physiology and human performance .
- Neurophysiology and innovative treatments.
Spotlight on Recent Work (2024-2025): Our faculty and researchers are actively contributing to the scientific community. Recent work includes studies on the anti-inflammatory effects of Asparagus racemosus in pre-eclampsia, the association between muscle performance and heart rate variability in type 2 diabetes, and optimizing pediatric brain mapping with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
