Jamia Hamdard University

Jamia Hamdard is the foresight and vision, of the philosopher-philanthropist, and distinguished, Hakeem Abdul Hameed Sahib. It was conferred the status of “Deemed to be University” on the recommendations of the UGC under Section 3 of UGC act 1956 by Government of India in the year 1989.

The university has a distinction of been accredited in ‘A’ grade by NAAC in consecutively three cycles and has also attained its place in Group I (Institutions Satisfying Most of Criteria for Deemed University Status) through an assessment conducted by the Committee constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development for the purpose of Review of Existing Institutions Deemed to be University.

Jamia Hamdard being a seat of higher education has been recently fortified through establishment of Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR) for imparting medical education in modern system as per the norms of National Medical Council (India). Spread over a sprawling green campus of about 100 acres, located on a prime piece of land in South Delhi, Jamia Hamdard has ten Faculties with distinct research programmes including a medical college, two hospitals – a 530 bedded Modern Medicine hospital and another 150 bedded Unani medicine hospital – on its campus. It has a big library, archive centre, separate hostels for girls and boys, gymnasium, a large playground, residential quarters for the staff.

In the national ranking conducted by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Jamia Hamdard has been ranked 3rd and 1st in Pharmacy in 2016 and 2017, respectively and was ranked 22nd in the medical category in the country by  the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2019.
