Report On National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2026

On the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, observed annually on 1st October, a voluntary blood donation camp was organized by the Blood Centre and Department of Pathology, HIMSR at HAHC Hospital on 1st October 2026. The camp remained operational from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness regarding the importance of voluntary blood donation and encouraging greater participation among students, staff and the community. The activities continued the message of this year’s theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”

The event was formally inaugurated by Dean HIMSR, Dr. Musharraf Husain, in the presence of Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, and HOD Pathology, Dr. Sabina Khan.

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from medical students, staff and other voluntary donors. After appropriate donor screening and eligibility assessment, the team successfully collected 25 voluntary blood donations. All donor screening, blood collection and post-donation care were carried out in accordance with established standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. As a token of gratitude and recognition, our dignitaries felicitated all donors with certificates of appreciation, customized mugs, and refreshment kits, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to serving society. A specially designed photo booth was also arranged to capture the joyful smiles of our donors.

A notable feature of the programme was the enthusiastic participation of MBBS students, particularly the newly joined 2026 batch. Their involvement provided an opportunity to introduce young medical students to the importance of voluntary blood donation and community participation early in their medical education, while reinforcing the values of social responsibility and humanitarian service.

As a precursor to National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a community outreach and awareness programme was conducted at the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC), Prahladpur, on 17th September 2026. The programme focused on sensitizing the community regarding the need for voluntary blood donation, its role in ensuring an adequate and safe blood supply, and the importance of regular participation by eligible donors.

The team also conducted an interactive “Myths versus Facts” session to address common misconceptions and concerns about blood donation. Participants were encouraged to discuss their apprehensions and were provided with accurate information regarding donor eligibility, safety and the blood donation process. The outreach initiative aimed to reduce misconceptions that may prevent otherwise eligible individuals from donating blood and to promote a positive attitude toward voluntary donation within the community.

The successful conduct of both the community outreach programme and the blood donation camp was made possible through the guidance of the Head of the Department of Pathology and the dedicated efforts of the Blood Centre team, faculty, residents, technical staff and students.

We express our sincere gratitude to all the voluntary blood donors who came forward and contributed to this important cause. Their participation exemplifies the spirit behind National Voluntary Blood Donation Day and highlights the important role that voluntary donors play in ensuring the availability of safe blood for patients in need.

The programme proved to be a successful initiative in strengthening awareness regarding voluntary blood donation, engaging the community and encouraging young medical students to participate in socially relevant healthcare activities. It reinforced the message that a single act of voluntary blood donation can help save lives and strengthen the spirit of humanitarian service.
