On 14th September 2021, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (HIMSR) observed Founder’s Day on the 113th Birth anniversary (14 September 1908) of the founder of Hamdard Padma Bhushan Hakeem Abdul Hameed Sahib under the patronage of Janab Abdul Majeed Sani Sahib, President, Hamdard National Foundation (HNF)-MREC and Hamdard Educational Society (HES) and Dr Asad Mueed Sahib, Vice President, HNF-MREC & HES. Shree Rajnath Singh ji, Hon’ble Defence Minister, Government of India graced the occasion as Chief Guest virtually. Shree Virendra Singh Mast ji, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Balia was the Guest of Honour and Mr Abdul Kalam, Board member & former president, WAPS was the Special Guest on this occasion. The event started with the verses Holy Quran followed by the welcome note by Prof. Mridu Dudeja, Dean HIMSR. She gave an overview of HIMSR and its activities in various domains including during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his presidential address, Mr Abdul Majeed Sani sb apprised of the foresight of hakeem Sb in starting the campus at Hamdard Nagar from the scratch. He praised the way HIMSR has come up in the last decade and promised more efforts on education and research.

Chief Guest Shree Rajnath Singh ji highlighted highlighted the importance of Unani Medicine, the similarity between Unani and Ayurveda systems of medicine, the need of modernisation of Unani system of Medicine and the immense contribution of Hakeem Sb in modernising Unani medicine.

Shree Virendra Singh Mast ji explained how the traditional system of medicine can combat the increasing commercialisation of healthcare. He exhorted HIMSR to consider opening a similar venture in Eastern Uttar Pradesh so that the youth can be benefited.

Mr Abdul Kalam congratulated HIMSR on achieving the laurels in the short period of time and wished it best. He said that HIMSR should consider expanding into rural areas of the country especially where the downtrodden people live.

Dr GN Qazi Chief Executive Officer (CEO) HIMSR and HAHC Hospital presented the highlights of the journey of building & bringing up HIMSR. He also announced the plans to establish paramedical courses at HIMSR. Qazi Sb said that the recent ranking of HIMSR in NIRF has once again proven that this new institute is giving a tough competition to the established giants in Delhi NCR.

Prof. Mridu Dudeja, Dean, HIMSR presented the journey through 20200 – 2021: facing the COVID – challenge and elaborated upon the contribution of HIMSR and HAHC hospital in combating the COVID – 19.

Janab Syed Samar Hamid Sb, Secretary of HES elaborated on how HES, a brain child of Hakeem Sb has been serving in the field of education through its institutions right from school education to coaching for IAS.

On this occasion, alumni and achievers of HIMSR were felicitated with certificates and mementos. Awards were given out to students achieving place in postgraduation courses, to MBBS Rank holders and students securing proficiency in various subjects. Some 90 students were felicitated. Cultural program was the highlight of the event. Student and Faculty of HIMSR enthralled the audience.

Programme was convened by Dr Aqsa Sheikh and Dr Bhumika Upadhyaya. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Nusrat Nabi. The programme concluded with the inauguration of Advanced Cardiac Life Support Ambulance at the hands of Shri Virendra Singh ji.
